System of a Down

System of a Down are the Armenian-American quartet from Glendale, California — vocalist Serj Tankian, guitarist/vocalist Daron Malakian, bassist Shavo Odadjian and drummer John Dolmayan — who fused thrashing alternative metal with folk melodies, political fury and lurching, unpredictable songwriting. Formed in 1994, they became one of the most distinctive and beloved heavy bands of their era.

Their 2001 breakthrough Toxicity topped the charts on the strength of “Chop Suey!,” “Toxicity” and “Aerials,” and the 2005 companion albums Mezmerize and Hypnotize pushed them further into the mainstream — the Grammy-winning “B.Y.O.B.” among the highlights. Though they have not released a studio album since, the band remains a massive live draw and broke a 15-year silence with the 2020 singles “Protect the Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz.” Watch the official videos below and explore their catalog.
