Cypress Hill

Cypress Hill are the South Gate, California crew who dragged West Coast hip-hop into stranger, smokier territory. Formed in 1988 around B-Real’s unmistakable nasal snarl, Sen Dog’s low-end bark and DJ Muggs’ murky, psychedelic production, they became one of the first Latino groups to go platinum in rap — and never sounded like anyone else.

Their 1993 breakout Black Sunday made them household names on the strength of “Insane in the Brain,” while cuts like “How I Could Just Kill a Man,” “Hits from the Bong” and “Dr. Greenthumb” turned their cannabis evangelism into a whole aesthetic. Four decades in, the group has sold more than 20 million records and earned the first-ever hip-hop star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, while still evolving — from the rock-rap of Skull & Bones to the all-Spanish Los Grandes Éxitos and 2026’s Dios Bendiga.
