The Black Keys

The Black Keys are the Akron, Ohio duo who turned basement blues-rock into arena-sized hooks. Guitarist and singer Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney started in 2001, self-recording raw, fuzzed-out records steeped in Junior Kimbrough and R.L. Burnside, then rode the 2000s garage-rock revival into the mainstream.

The breakthrough came with Brothers (2010) and El Camino (2011) — home to “Lonely Boy,” “Gold on the Ceiling” and “Little Black Submarines” — pairing Auerbach’s blues instincts with big, radio-ready choruses.
