There is no festival on Earth quite like Inkcarceration, and that starts with the ground it’s built on. Every July, Danny Wimmer Presents turns the crumbling Gothic sprawl of the Ohio State Reformatory — the very prison that stood in for Shawshank on the big screen — into a three-day cathedral of noise, ink and controlled chaos. For its 2026 run, July 17–19 in Mansfield, Ohio, the walls that once held real inmates shook to Disturbed, Bad Omens and Limp Bizkit, while fans wandered the same cell blocks between sets and after dark braved the site’s own “Blood Prison” haunt.

The bill was a genuine cross-section of heavy music’s present and future. Friday belonged to Disturbed, Papa Roach, Cypress Hill and Hollywood Undead; Saturday handed the keys to a rising Bad Omens (their only Ohio show), alongside Gojira, The Used and Sleeping With Sirens; Sunday closed with the nu-metal circus of Limp Bizkit over A Day To Remember, Motionless In White and Ice Nine Kills. Beneath the headliners, 65-plus bands stacked three stages deep — Lorna Shore, Machine Head, Poppy, Starset, Hatebreed, Tech N9ne, Jinjer and Lacuna Coil among them — a lineup that respects the legends and feeds the pit’s next generation in equal measure.

Inkcarceration isn’t only a concert — it’s a weekend built to live inside. Passes bundled free tours of the historic reformatory with all-weekend access to Monster Energy Tattoo X and its 100-plus artists, so you could catch a breakdown, get inked, then walk through Shawshank’s shadows all in one afternoon.
